The persistent problems with turfs in stadiums can be attributed to the way that stadiums are built and used. In addition, increasingly higher demands are being placed on pitches nowadays. Grass growth is reduced due to the fact that less and less light is getting through because of the way in which stadiums are built. This, in combination with poor cultivation techniques means that the turf is not growing fast enough to compensate for the wear caused by the use of the pitch. During months with lower light intensities, the turf is even likely to show considerable negative growth.
